Don Grace (Regular service) Cyprus. 1956 - 1959

Royal Signals Catterick 7 training regiment 5 troop August 1956

Don Grace Royal SignalsI was called up for NS (at 21) and signed on as a Regular and served for a total ofthree and a half years. Trained at Catterick, then Cipher course and D n D for promotion to full Corporal Don Grace Royal Signalsat Brighton..Intransit at Chester before being posted to Cyprus for over two years.
Under canvas for 3 months and lucky to have my wife join me. I worked mainly in the Signal Centre at Wolsely Barracks, Nicosia, sometimes as Superintendant on Teleprinter Shift or in Cipher office. Our Chief Cipher officer was avery nice chap...Capt. Tompkins.
Other duties were infantry, mainly road blocks and foot patrols during gaps in time while infantry Regiments were in transit
An interesting time...Lost track of a few friends especially(Corporal Fred Toole, WOII Gus Kelly) as I migrated here "downunder" in 1966.
